Rex Industry Berhad (“Rex Group”) is an investment holding company with 11 subsidiaries. The Group primarily manufactures and produces halal canned food including seafood, meat and vegetables, as well as beverages and confectionary products among others.


These products are produced and traded under the brand name Rex, Noisette and Cinta among others. A team of food technology experts source raw materials according to international standards, maintaining a strict vigil on the quality of all its products. With over 60 items on its overall products list, most of these brand names have been in existence for more than 20 years and are widely distributed across Malaysia and other regions.


Rex Group’s integrated operations is located in a modern facility in Penang, Malaysia with another factory located in Indonesia. The Group also operates in four principal geographical areas which include the United States of America, Europe and Asia, having more than 800 employees who bring together affordable food and beverage products for millions of consumers around the world.

In 1990, he joined Rex Canning Co. Sdn. Bhd., as its Quality Control Supervisor. In 1992, he went on to become the Quality Control Manager at P.T. Rex Canning, Indonesia. From 1997 to 1998, Mr. Chu was entrusted with setting up a new processing plant and operations for Rex Group in People's Republic of China in his capacity as General Manager for Jie Yang Rex Foods Ltd. Co., before he returned to P.T. Rex Canning in 1998 to be in charge of the general management of P.T. Rex Canning.

In 2007, he, together with his partner, took Safeguards private.

Subsequently, Mr. Darmendran was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of Kejuruteraan Samudra Timur Berhad ("KSTB") and its group of subsidiaries prior to being appointed to the Board of KSTB as a Non-Executive Director on 26 February 2009. He was redesignated as Executive Director on 24 August 2009.
